My trip to Sweden for the International Hockey Convention was undeniably one of the best hockey experiences of my life. From seeing USA win the Gold medal at the World Juniors to braving the perils of ice fog with over 140 other coaches, every moment was a total blast.
Summarizing everything I learned in Gothenburg would take way more time than I have right now, so I’ll be doing that when the 2024 GGR Roundup takes place in exactly two weeks. In the meantime, watch this walkalong recap from the venerable Maria Mountain about her own experience in Sweden.
The GGR Roundup is a virtual one-day event for goalie coaches. It’s free to attend and open to coaches of all levels, so all you have to do is register here.
I host this virtual “roundup” for anyone that is interested in attending the Global Goaltending Retreat. It’s also a way for past, current, and future guests to learn more about what we do as a group during our time together in Breckenridge.
Although the Roundup schedule is still in “draft” mode, I wanted share some details on where I’m at with everything.
2024 GGR Roundup Schedule (draft)
1:00p EST - Justin Goldman
1:30p EST - Nate Speidel
2:00p EST - Panel Discussion (w/ Maria, Steve, Justin, Thomas)
3:00p EST - Sera Dogramaci (recording)
3:30p EST - Katy Jo West
I always start the Roundup by introducing the GGR mission and sharing key logistics, info, and dates. I also share some of my current plans for the upcoming event. We have a lot of exciting new changes in store for 2024, mainly due to the later dates (mid-June instead of early-June), so there’s a lot to cover this time.
Dr. Nate Speidel, who has presented his research on goaltender motivation at the past two events, will be updating us on his latest findings and how it will influence some of the work we’ll be doing in Breckenridge.
Then I’ll be moderating a Discussion Panel with Thomas Magnusson, Maria Mountain, and Steve Thompson. All three of them were speakers at the International Hockey Convention in Sweden, so this is where I’ll share more about what I learned at the symposium and ask the experts what their main takeaways were.
Sera Dogramaci from Australia will be presenting on an activity she is developing for the GGR, and our expert skating coach friend Katy Jo West will be gathering feedback from the group in order to design and model some goalie-specific skating drills for the Demo Goalies.
I might add one or two more speakers to the lineup, but this is a great collection to kick things off and I can’t wait to connect with everyone in a few weeks!
As always, reach out if you have any questions and thank you for supporting The Goalie Guild foundation.
